Art

What was new?

You can see an immense difference in art if you compare medieval art with the Reniassance's. Renaissance art tries to show people as what they would look like in real life. This was a big difference in the two arts. For example, when a medieval artist painted a picture of the birth of Jesus, he wanted to remind people that Jesus was born to save the world. Compared to a Renaissance artist, he wanted to make a painting show how tender Mary looked with her little baby.

Renaissance artists also used new techniques. The important one was perspective, a technique that makes a drawing or painting look three-dimensional. Renaissance artists perfected the technique. The result is a more realistic image.

To make the paintings more realistic, they used another technique called chiaroscuro. It softened edges by using light and shadows instead of stiff outlines to seperate objects. The technique created more drama and emotion in a painting.

The Renaissance hit its peak in art during 1490 to 1520. The artistic Renaissance lasted from 1350 to 1550. Some of the greatest artists were during this time. They consisted of Michelangelo Buonarroti, Raphael Sanzio, and Leonardo da Vinci. Art was a big part in the Renaissance.
